The Paris Peace Conference convened to establish the terms of the peace after the First World War.
Although the Treaty had been signed in June the previous year, the terms weren’t activated until 10 January which meant that the League of Nations was officially founded as the Covenant of the League was now in operation.
Keen to distance the United States from nationalistic disputes that fuelled European rivalries, Wilson’s 14 Points sought a lasting peace by securing terms that avoided selfish ambitions of the victors.
United States President Woodrow Wilson suffered a stroke that left him paralyzed on his left-hand side.
By January 1917 he was still no closer to being caught, and Pershing’s forces were ordered to withdraw and return to the United States.
Forty-four years after the establishment of Yellowstone, the service was created when President Wilson signed the National Park Service Organic Act on 25 August, 1916.
