The French Blue diamond had been part of the royal collection since the seventeenth century, and was stolen by a group of thieves after King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette were imprisoned in the Temple.
Having been found guilty of treason, she was instead sentenced to death and transported to the guillotine in an open cart.
At 12.15pm on the afternoon of the 16th October 1793, Marie Antoinette was executed by guillotine in the Place de la Revolution in Paris.
On the 21st January 1793, former French King Louis XVI was executed by guillotine at the Place de la Revolution in Paris.
