‘Silent Night’ is based on a six-stanza poem written by Joseph Mohr, a young priest who arrived at the Nikolauskirche in the small Austrian town of Oberndorf bei Salzburg the previous year.
The band, whose name has sadly been lost, were auditioning Hendrix to join them but after an exuberant first-set performance opted not to invite him back on stage for the second set.
On the 25th July 1965, American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan performed at the Newport Folk Festival with an electric band.
On the 20th February 1959, Jimi Hendrix played his first ever live concert – and got fired from the band after the first set.
